Rosemount Lady Irish Fastpitch Softball

1998 was a VERY good year!!

1998 was a very good year for Rosemount Irish Fastpitch Softball. Our high school team made it to the State Tournament for the first time in 8 years. Led by a stelar cast of six seniors and three juniors, the team fought their way through regions the hard way, having to come through the losers bracket after their second game. The day of the finals they had to beat a tough Rochester team twice to qualify for State. Senior pitcher Tiffany Rose baffled the Rochester batters, and the timely hitting of Brook Iverson and Andrea Welvaert led to two wins for the Irish. Their appearance at State was not a great one, as they lost their opening game 2-1 to the Cottage Grove team and then lost again in the consolation bracket to the team from Mankato. It was a great year though, and all of the team members had some fond memories of the season.

Irish Summer Fastpitch
Our 1998 Summer Fastpitch program had some excellent results as well. The 16 and under team, led by coach Tim Johnson, took a second place at the state "B" tournament which qualified them for a trip to Kansas City and the ASA "B" Area Nationals. The trip to KC proved to be successful too, with the team placing third out of 32 teams.
Our other teams in summer ball did well too, with the 14U - A team progressing to the fifth round of the state tournament before losing their second game. The 14U - B team lost in the qualifying tournament to go to state, but the girls who played on that team learned a lot about softball under the tutelage of Stephanie Rose, their coach and former standout player for the Rosemount Irish High School team.
The 18U team had a lot of fun during the summer, winning some close games and losing some others. The highlight of their summer was the Duluth tournament, where they placed second. The team was coached by Jeff Carlson.
The fall teams for Rosemount fared very well in 1998. The 18 and under team placed first in the Tier I competition, defeating several powerhouse teams along the way. The 14U team, composed mostly of girls from the 14U summer "B" team, surprised everyone and won the Tier III State championship. Incredible pitching and timely hitting were the keys to this win, with the final game going to extra innings before a homerun in the bottom of the eighth sealed the victory for the Rosemount Irish. It capped an incredible season for the entire Rosemount program!

What is in store for 1999 Rosemount Fastpitch Softball??
This year, 1999, proves to be a crucial one for the Rosemount Fastpitch program. The high school team lost their five year starting pitcher to graduation and five other starting seniors. The new group coming up is a strong group, but it remains to be seen if the pressure of High School ball will get to these kids.
The summer program remains strong, but needs to get better. More timely hitting and some clutch defensive plays will help all of the age groups go further this summer than they have ever gone before. All of the ages, from the 12U to the 18U group will be competitive.
